XENIA - For Hamilton Joes fans, it must seem like they’ve
been listening to the same broken record…all summer long.
The Joes’ road woes continued tonight. Just as in almost every other loss,
home and away, the little things came back to bite them at the same moment Lady
Luck went on vacation. After
another stellar pitching performance from a Hamilton starter, the Joes lost
another close one in the GLSCL.
The Final score should not read this way - Hamilton 2, Xenia 3.
After racking up seven hits in a quick four
innings off Scouts starting pitcher, Tyler Bersano, the record skipped again
when Xenia brought in Barry Benton.
The air suddenly quit blowing, the ball quit carrying, and someone
drilled doorknob-sized holes in the Joes’ bats.
Noah Mull threw eight frames, while striking out
six and only surrendering two runs on four hits. It just turned into another night of not getting in the
runners from scoring position, along with some more untimely pitching woes from
the bullpen.
John Greene, a Miami University (Oxford) relief
pitcher, walked Xenia’s All-Star Third Baseman, Case Riggby. And after a Greene wild pitch that
advanced Riggby to second base, that was all Xenia needed. Phil
Shallenberger hit a game-winning RBI double down the left-field line.
Maybe the original Hamilton Joe will look down
and spread a little luck over his namesakes…or at least get take that record
off the player.
